Medical Nutrition Therapy

Adult In-patient 

  • 10 weeks supervised clinical experience in several medical units across the hospital

  • 2 weeks experience with the in-patient Women's Care Unit and outpatient Maternal/Fetal unit

  • Independent staff relief:

    • 1 week on Cardiac, Cardiac ICU, & Short stay units

    • 3 days on Surgical ICU, Cardiac Intermediate, & Cardiac Step-Down

    • 2 weekends covering all dietary consults throughout the hospital

Adult Out-patient 

  • ​2 weeks clinical experience at OSF outpatient clinics:

    • Oncology Services​

    • Weight Management Clinic & Cardiac Rehab

  • 2 weeks experience with the Eating Disorder Program at OSF Behavioral Health

    • Observed outpatient counseling sessions, as well as the partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs.​

    • Supervised PHP/IOP meals and lead a nutrition group for PHP/IOP patients

  • Outpatient Counseling at Heartland Clinic

    • I had the opportunity to apply my counseling and motivational interviewing skills in an outpatient setting at the Heartland Clinic for low-income patients. I provided medical nutrition therapy for patients with Type 2 Diabetes and food intolerances, and conducted a follow-up appointment for one of my patients.​

  • 2 weeks shadowing a private-practice Certified Intuitive Eating RD at Mindfully Well. This RD uses a non-diet approach to counsel clients with eating disorders, a history of dieting, and/or chronic medical conditions.

Pediatric In-Patient and Out-patient

  • 5 weeks supervised in-patient clinical experience with pediatrics in the following units

    • General Pediatrics/Pediatric Hematology & Oncology​

    • Pediatric ICU

    • Neonatal ICU

  • Independent Staff Relief

    • 2 weeks covering the Neonatal ICU​

  • 2 weeks experience with outpatient pediatrics
